National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: A New Dialing Procedure

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

The spectrum revealed the introduction of a new 10-digit dialing protocol for Spectrum Voice and Spectrum Business Voice customers in selected areas. It allows consumers to quickly access the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline with the new 988 dialing code as it activates in July 2022. Spectrum Internet offers you an easier approach to the National suicide prevention lifeline.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Although seven-digit dialing will continue to be available for a few months longer, starting October 24, all local calls will force consumers to dial the area code preceded by the seven-digit phone number. Additionally, critical safety and protection appliances, such as medical warning machines and alarm systems, should be configured to dial using a ten-digit dialing pattern. Beginning July 16, 2022, calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be immediately routed to 988. Prior to the introduction after this year, consumers will contact the hotline by dialing 1-800-273-8255.

The Latest Protocol

The latest dialing protocol is the product of a directive by the Federal Communications Commission accepting 988 as the three-digit abbreviated dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. To ensure that 988 works properly for Spectrum customers in the 56 area codes mentioned below, each customer must be switched to 10-digit dialing for local calls. The number of markets includes every area code allocated to the 988 prefix that officially supports seven-digit local calling.
